Matthew Attard’s art installation, I Will Follow the Ship, is a unique representation inspired by historical images of ex-voto ship graffiti in Malta. These graffiti, marked on wayside chapels by seafarers, depict tales of survival, faith, and salvation.

The project is curated by Sara Dolfi Agostini and Elyse Tonna, with project management overseen by Maria Galea and Galleria Michela Rizzo. Arts Council Malta selected “I Will Follow the Ship” to represent Malta at the 60th Biennale di Venezia 2024, aligning with the theme “Foreigners Everywhere.”

The theme explores the presence of foreigners in all aspects of life and the deep-down feeling of being a foreigner, showcasing artists from diverse backgrounds. Malta’s participation marks a return to the Biennale after a 17-year absence, with previous pavilions receiving international acclaim in 2017, 2019, and 2022.
